Stevens is an American director, screenwriter and producer. Initially a director of photography, his first success as director came with Alice Adams in 1935. His career comes to a halt during the Second World War when he enlisted in a film unit in the US Army Signal Corps. A respected director within the Hollywood industry, he won Academy Awards for Best Director for A Place in the Sun (1951) and Giant (1956).
