Kaori Kinoshita was born in Tokyo in 1970 were she studied sculpture. She arrived in France in 1997 to explore video art at the Beaux-Arts of Dijon, before entering the Fresnoy contemporary art studio. This is where she meet Alain Della Negra, born in France 1975, graduated from Strasbourg’s Beaux-Arts.
Ever since, they have lived and worked together in Paris, creating for ten years a relationship between personal identity and avatars : virtual characters, masks and disguises, community happenings…
They started their shared career with short documentaries ("Dropping Out", "Chitra Party", "La Tanière", "How Much Rain to Make a Rainbow"…) before directing "The Cat, the Reverend and the Slave", a documentary film in 2009, in which they make a series of compared portrait of Americans in their day-to-day lives and through their avatars in the network game Second Life.
At the same time, the duo starts to develop a now project called "Tokyo’s New Wife in Japan" and shoots a feature film in Croatia, "Bonheur Académie", in which they film members of the Raelian movement along with professional actors at the heart of their Happiness University.
Furthermore, Kaori and Alain frequently collaborate with numerous art centers such as the Palais de Tokyo, the Centre Pompidou, both in Paris, as well as the Haifa Museum of Art.
