William and Madeleine live in a town at the foot of the mountains. Married for a long time, faithful and in love, they have an ordered life. Their only daughter leaving for Italy, they only have to care for themselves now. During one of their walks in the surrounding hills, Madeleine sets up her easel in front of an old house and meets Adam, a refined, cultivated blind man. He gives her a tour of the house she is painting : it’s for sale. It’s love at first sight, William and Madeleine buy it right away.
In the weeks following the purchase, William and Madeleine share a moment of great happiness. Their new life arranges itself close to Adam and his young partner Eva, who live a few hundred meters away. The day their new friends’ house burns, William and Madeleine have no desire but to accommodate them…
