Since Hurricane Katrina, a new state has rebuilt itself on the ruins and the past of a declining economy. Thanks to important tax incentives, New Orleans, and more generally, Louisiana has become « Hollywood South » in less than a decade for over 200 produced films and tv shows (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, 12 Years a Slave, Twilight, Jurassic World, Dallas Buyers Club, True Blood, Treme, True Detective…). A quick and consistent development but in line with the cinematic and cultural traditions of the city, which has through the years become the preferred set for melodramas, horror films and atypical thrillers that have rewritten the codes by making film history.
It was thus necessary to offer various visions from the past and present and to question the future of the biggest city of Louisiana, birthplace of jazz, Cajun cuisine, witchcraft and voodoo, by showing historical, social and architectural transformations of the last two centuries, from the « Red District » of Storyville in Pretty Baby to post-apocalyptic fantasy of Beasts of the Southern Wild.
Beyond cinematic narratives, we also invite the festival goers to discover the musical, artistic and culinary delights of New Orleans through the multicultural excitement (French, Spanish, Creole) of a city that never ceases to reinvent itself.
