Maximilian Badier Rosenthal is born from a French father and Vietnamese mother. He studied Mandarin at the University, then in Beijing. Back in France, he discovered Aubervilliers' Office municipal de la jeunesse, an association which annually organizes a short film festival called Génération Court where he learned a more authentic and personal form of cinema. In 2017, Yassine Qnia mentioned the possibility of producing Ông Ngoai within the production company Nouvelle Toile.
